In addition to those listed below, each program area has individual councils such as Homemaker Council, 4-H Council and Agriculture/Horticulture Council.

Shelby County District Board

The Shelby County District Board is an agency of the state to function with authority for making fiscal and financial decisions for the Extension District in cooperation with the University of Kentucky. The District Board is composed of the county Judge Executive and six other citizens residing within the Extension District. Members are nominated from the Extension Council membership and serve a three year term, without limit of reappointment. The District Board meets the first Wednesday of each month at the Shelby County Extension Office.

Contact Regina Browning, Agent for 4-H Development,

at (502) 633-4593 for more information about the District Board.

Shelby County Extension Council

The Extension Council is the primary organization representing the people of the county in direction of the total Extension Program. It is an organized body of volunteer leaders that identify, with the Extension Agents, local problems and issues, assist in program implementation, participate in determining program success, and communicate program accomplishments and funding needs to decision makers. In addition, the council provides advice, recommendations and assistance to the District Board for use in making business and fiscal matter decisions for the overall well being of the people and communities in the Extension District.

In Shelby County, a diverse group of 34 men and women from all areas of the county work with Extension Agents as council members. These leaders represent all major programming areas including Agriculture, Horticulture, 4-H Youth Development, Family and Consumer Sciences and Community Development. The Extension Council meets on a quarterly basis at the Shelby County Extension Office and is always interested in new members. We would love to have you inquire about or visit one of our meetings.

Contact Elizabeth Coots, County Agent for Family & Consumer Sciences,

at (502) 633-4593 with questions about the Extension Council.
