WaterStep Headquarters Save A Life Tour

The WaterStep program is a nonprofit that provides safe water to communities in developing countries. They train people in developing countries how to use safe water solutions like water purification, health education, and well repair empowering communities to take care of their own water needs for years. We believe that the best solutions to water problems are rooted in simple tools and effective training. The tour is approximately 45 minutes in length and includes:

Meet the WaterStep Staff, Learn more about how WaterStep works, and Discover ways to be involved, Hear Impact Stories, Tour of the facility with information regarding the Shoe Program, Manufacturing and the water school with time for questions. Lunch is included with this tour.  We will depart from Shelby County Extension at 11 a.m. 

Hatfield McCoy Heritage Days

The feud is over, let the fun begin! Hatfield and McCoy Heritage Days is coming to Pikeville and Pike County! Expect plenty of friends, food, and fun during this highly anticipated event.

Saturday, September 23 is the Hatfield and McCoy Pig Roast from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., and will feature no feudin’, just family fun. This very special event offers a wealth of fun activities, such as arts and crafts, an apple butter demo, vintage corn mill in operation, kids activities, face painting, tie dye station and guest vendors featuring local produce.  

 We will depart from the Extension office at 8 a.m. and arrive at the festival at approximately 11:30 a.m. Lunch will be on your own at the festival and then we will depart from the festival grounds at 3 p.m. with a stop along the way at the Sandstone Arches Restaurant at the Natural Bridge State Resort Park for dinner. The fee covers transportation and parking expenses for this trip. Please bring along some cash for meals and shopping!

Georgia Mountain Fall Festival

Fall is a special time in the Georgia Mountains, with its mild temperatures and beautiful scenery there is no better place to be. Enjoy the activities at the Georgia Mountain Fall Festival, a 9 day event that features exciting musical performances, arts and craft vendors, educational demonstrations, a flower show, Pioneer Village and the ever popular Georgia’s Official State Fiddlers Convention.

When you visit the Dillard House Restaurant you might expect just a meal, but it’s a true Southern culinary event that awaits you. They received two Reader Choice Awards in Southern Living Magazine. One for Best Breakfast/Brunch Restaurant and one for Southern Favorite Restaurant.

We will travel to Tallulah Gorge State Park & Falls, an ancient, awesome 1,000 foot chasm carved over millions of years by the Tallulah River, Tallulah Falls is actually a series of six waterfalls cascading down through Tallulah Gorge.

Spend time in Helen, Georgia at the Alpine Village with a German flair where we will have time for shopping and sightseeing. Enjoy the beautiful scenery as we make our way home.
